Donna Theimer joined the JJC horticulture department in the fall of 2000. She is responsible for teaching all four levels of Floral Design, Interior Plants, and Agriculture Education. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she assists students in the creation of wedding flowers for the community. She is also an academic advisor for floral and greenhouse students. She is the advisor for the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Design (SAIFD) organization.
Prior to coming to JJC, Ms. Theimer taught ornamental horticulture at the high school level for 15 years. She received her A.A.S degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Kishwaukee College, in Malta, Illinois. She obtained her B.S. degree in Agriculture Education from SIUC, in Carbondale, Illinois and her M.A. in Curriculum and Instructional Design from Governor’s State University in University Park, Illinois. She has accumulated 60 hours of education beyond her M.A. in a variety of topics including horticulture.
Wedding flowers are her passion! She was the winner of the Best Bridal Bouquet category for the 2006 Florists’ Review magazine wedding contest. She has created flowers for hundreds of weddings and events with budgets ranging from $350.00 up to $125,000.00.
Ms. Theimer is an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) as well as an Illinois Certified Professional Florist (ICPF). She has worked in many areas of the green industry including greenhouse operations, residential landscape design, extension service, and of course, retail floral shops.
